We provide regular special education services to students who need them. These services may include:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Social skills classes
  • Psychological evaluations
  • Family counseling
  • Play therapy
  • Applied Behavioral Analysis

These services are provided by licensed providers, and billing will go through their individual practices. If your child already has a provider, they are welcome to work with your child at the school. We offer evaluations at the beginning of each semester to help you determine if your children could benefit from services.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are written by the public school system to help provide services to your child in the least restrictive education environment. You will find that accommodations listed in your child’s IEP may not translate directly to our school environment. Our holistic approach means children do not always need support to complete their work. For instance, students can take as long as they want to complete a project, so they do not need extra time or an adjusted grading scale at our school. Nevertheless, we encourage you to request an IEP for your child and to schedule reevaluations every three years.

By enrolling in a private school, families give up their right to a “Free Appropriate Public Education” for their children. That means you may not be able to take advantage of free special education services offered through Gaston County Schools. You are also not able to appeal to the school board for specific accommodations for your child. While we are dedicated to providing high quality services from private providers, we urge you to consider the impact of removing your child from their current educational environment before enrolling.
